Wasl means "meeting", "connection" in Arabic language.
Around combination of lyrics from the two parts of the Arab world by Hassan Najmi (Rabat - Maroc) and Salman Masalha (Jerusalem), this amazing trio WASL is composed by Kamilya Jubran (voice and oud), Werner Hasler (trumpet and electronics) & Sarah Murcia (acoustic bass). 

Kamilya, Sarah et Werner se connaissent depuis plus de dix ans. Leur rencontre crée un monde sonore inédit, imprégné de nuances étonnantes: la richesse et la diversité des registres et la force des variations de la voix de Kamilya Jubran, la profondeur presque austère des sons électroniques associés à la finesse des lignes de trompette de Werner Hasler, le jeu complexe toujours franc et mesuré, chaleureux et généreux de Sarah Murcia.  وصل WASL est un trio inspiré étonnant et captivant.

Aleph

 

"Aleph" (1956-1966) is the unique movie directed by the american artist Wallace Berman (1926-1976).

Involved in the 50s in the "beat artistic scene", Wallace Berman has been called the "father" of assemblage art. He created "Verifax collages", which consist of photocopies of images from magazines and newspapers, mounted onto a flat surface in a collage fashion, mixed with occasional solid areas of acrylic paint.
He is well known for his magazine "Semina" which consisted of photographs, texts, drawings, images and poetry by writers Michael McLure, Charles Bukowski, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Jean Cocteau and other ones.

Originally, the "Aleph" movie is silent, but this version is scored by Mellankeffekt.

with probably some figures (poets, singers ...) of the Beat Generation to identify.

Blueblut is an austrian band formed in 2013 by the american artist Pamelia Stickney, who plays theremin with Mark Holub on drums  & Chris Janka on guitar.


Pamelia Stickney is a famous theremin's player who use to play alone or in combination with other performers.
Her background as a jazz musician on the upright bass has led to develop a "walking bass" theremin technique.
With her rough way of playing, when necessary, Pamelia Stickney can compete with other female virtuosas who play this magical instrument, as Dorit Chrysler or Pamela Kurstin, her double under heteronym <> She published CDs and performs from 1999.

Variophone


The "Variophone" - or "Automated Paper Sound with soundtracks in both transversal and intensive form" -  was invented by Evgeny Sholpo in 1930 at Alexander Shorin's Central Laboratory of Wire Communication in Leningrad. In May 1930 Sholpo applied for a patent on a “method and device for the production of a periodic sound track on film". It was a continuation of research that Sholpo had been conducting since the 1910s when he was working on performer-less music.

The first version of the instrument was built with assistance from the composer Georgy Rimsky-Korsakov (grandson of the famous composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov) in 1931 at Lenfilm Studios.
The first soundtrack they did was for the short propaganda film The year 1905 in Bourgeois Satire (director N.I. Galkin, composer V.M. Deshevov).


Sholpo’s method made access easier to varieties of timbres. Unlike Arseny Avraamov, who shot still images of sounds on an animation stand, Sholpo used cardboard disks with circular images of combs with suitably shaped cogs rotating synchronously with a moving filmstrip. The advantages of the Variophone were in its flexible and continuous pitch control and vibrato.
